Why My Business Simulation Experience Works

Retreat • November 14, 2023

There’s no getting away from it, experience counts. I found the coolest GIF on Friday, and now I cannot remember where I saw it or I would have posted it here (It was THAT kind of week).

The short video showed two people playing table tennis. One was enthusiastically runny around trying to make every shot count. The other patiently returned every ball. Until he spotted a gap. And then he smashed the ball into the gap, winning the game.

The punchline was; “Experience Vs. Qualification. Skills are best nurtured through experience rather than passive consumption of information.

Business simulations have transformed my client’s companies. Why? Because if entrepreneurs had to pay the price of learning by experience, hardly any of us would make it. By placing my clients in realistic scenarios, I allow them to learn through solving problems rather than just discussing cases.

The feedback is that clients not only enjoy this engaged, hands-on style of training, using their own business data, but that the results are quantifiable and quick. Usually within 90 days.

The key advantage of simulations is allowing mistakes to happen without real-world consequences. During the Barcelona Business Summit in January, my delegates will be encouraged to explore risk-taking and experimentation that they wouldn’t dare attempt in the real world.

I will show them how to explore decisions and their outcomes in a low-stakes environment, without breaking stuff. And then using this data we will build extraordinary plans for them to grow revenue that they may never have attempted. Or thought about.
